Royal Racing 2021 - What’s new?
Royal Racing Launch 2021 Range
Homegrown MTB apparel brand Royal Racing have launched their 2021 range of MTB specific clothing.
Many people associate Royal Racing with the competitive side of mountain biking, but the 2021 range suggests the brand caters for a much broader spectrum of uses on and off a bike.
The classics remain: Matrix Jacket, Core Jersey & Shorts and of course the Storm range, but there have been notable additions. Race has evolved into Apex featuring a 100% recycled Jersey and an updated race pant. Heritage becomes Quantum and is perfectly suited all-round MTB use.
Here's Nick (Royal Design Director) and Steve Peat (needs no introduction) to take you through the range:
Designed for life on (and off) the bike - not just racing.
The Quantum range is new for 2021 and while it takes the place of Heritage as the do-it-all MTB range, it has some brand new additions.
Quantum Jacket and Hoody
The Quantum Jacket and Hoody are designed to work together, and will rapidly become an essential combination for any season.
Like the rest of the Quantum range, they are designed for life on a bike rather than life between the tapes, so use them on a gravel bike, at a trail centre, or to stay warm in a beer garden this spring.
Quantum Tech Hoody - looks like a casual item, but it’s actually cut for an on-bike position with longer arms and back. It’s breathable and with the help of a baffled cuff and inner storm flap will keep heat in when you need it to. The hood is designed to be worn under a helmet, which is ideal for keeping your head and ears warm.
Quantum Jacket - folds away into the top pocket to the size of a slimline energy drink can. So it’s easy to stash on the frame or in your pack. We made it from the best fabric we could lay our hands-on, so it breaths rather than trapping condensation and it’s fully taped and DWR coated to keep the rain out. Weighing just 100gm (size medium), the Quantum Jacket is as ideal for enduro transitions as it would be on a gravel bike or weekend trail centre ride.
Quantum Jersey - available in two colours, Deep Purple and Black with both a long and short sleeve option, but for the first time is constructed from 100% recycled fabric.
The Quantum jersey has a relaxed fit and is designed for all-day performance with an anti-bacterial coating. The theory being you can skip a wash after less taxing rides, reducing environmental impact.
The fabric is fast wicking and zero compromises have been taken in selecting a recycled fabric, we didn’t want to sacrifice performance.
Apex is our race-bred range but works just as well for trail and recreational mountain biking.
Apex Jersey - like the Quantum jersey, is now made from 100% recycled material. The featherlight, micro-mesh fabric is fast wicking and dries fast, while the anti-bacterial coating will keep it fresher for longer.
Apex Pants - these are the culmination of everything we have learned from 20+ years of DH and Enduro racing. Water and dirt resistant, 4-way stretch, ripstop fabric that wicks sweat from the skin and gives unrestricted freedom of movement.
Apex Pants are tailored with an on-bike fit and are shaped to sit properly on your hips as you ride. The Apex pant features a newly designed and relaxed waistband and bonded rear yoke, which allows them to fit more riders and do so more comfortably.
Essential items for any mountain biker
Core is our range of technical/casual clothing that allows true on or off-bike use. The changes to the Core range are just aesthetic for 2021. Core shorts are available in black and grey while we've introduced run of fresh Core jerseys.
The Core Jersey is designed to look and feels like a casual t-shirt, but with some subtle performance-enhancing differences:
- UV resistant fabric - to prevent UV damage to the skin
- Antimicrobial treatment - to keep it fresh for longer
- Fast wicking fabric - to remove sweat
- Fast-drying - for comfort
- Casual fit - because who doesn’t want to wear their favourite t-shirt on the bike!?
It’s important to pay it forward. Royal is a small, British-run company - not some corporate giant chasing profits. Last year during the pandemic, we were shocked to see some of the conditions our health service were facing.
We felt the least we could do would be to create a custom Core Jersey and donate all the profits to NHS Charities Together. This raised over £1100 (and counting) for this cause. We have since added an End Child Poverty jersey with profits going to FareShare.org.
We would like to take the opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who bought one of these items. There are a few left if you’d still like to help. We’ll be adding new causes soon.
