Care Guide
Most garments these days are made from manmade fibres. These are basically just tiny drinking straws all woven together. This creates the light, flexible and durable fabrics we require.
To prolong the life of manmade fibres, don’t get them too hot, and don’t make them brittle with chemicals. As well as being horrible for the environment, some can act like solvents on the fabric.
Our washing instructions are recommendations to prolong the life of the garment. Keeping all the characteristics you bought it for.
You’ve heard it all before: Wash as little as possible, wash as cool as possible, avoid aggressive chemicals and dry naturally.
Take care of your kit, and it will take care of you.
Product label jargon buster:
Breathable Garments.
A breathable garment requires a little more care.
The actual breathable layer is laminated or bonded to the outer fabric. This bond can be weakened with heat and bleach. This will cause the garment to blister as the inner membrane becomes unstuck from the outer material, destroying the properties of the jacket.
The actual breathable membrane layer is very delicate. The membrane is like a rubbery, light thin sheet. Strong detergents will dry this layer and it can crack, compromising waterproofing.
We recommend using fabric products specifically for this purpose, NIK WAX tech wash, Grangers and others are recommended by leading mountaineering companies. They know their sh*t.
Proper care will help keep your garment performing long into the future.
Jersey Care. All polyester Jerseys hate Velcro. It will tug the microscopic fibres creating loops or bobbles on the surface of the material. You can try stretching the fabric to pull them back in. Always wash your gloves with velcro closures closed, or even better, keep the two separate.
If jerseys become stained, the best action is to rub the detergent directly onto the stain before washing.. and wash again. Repeat until gone. Do not bleach
Final word.
Biking is a messy business. Get mucky. Enjoy. Repeat.
